The Carrier, a tense VR180 thriller that I shot in 2018 and completed in early 2023 has had its world premiere at FIVARS, one of the only festivals that focuses fully on celebrating the art of immersive entertainment, specifically those projects that seek to craft compelling narratives. There was a great interview with festival director Keram Malicki-Sánchez by Kent Bye’s Voices of VR where the history of the festival and the details of this year’s lineup were covered in great detail. While we could not send anyone to represent The Carrier in person, there was a fantastic online community complimenting the festival in real-time, and then a WebVR platform to watch all of the films at home after the in-person run ended. I have known about FIVARS for close to a decade now, but this is the first time that I have had a project at the festival, so it was my first time experiencing the incredible celebration of immersive art that Keram has curated. It was an honor to have our film premiere at FIVARS – I’m truly hoping to have another project that would be appropriate to submit for future festivals!
